Linkedin - Expose Your Profile for More Jobs and Gigs

1. How To Connect With The Right Investors

In this section I want to talk about how to find an investor for your company. Some of you may be looking for some type of seed money, some investors, some capital, to kind of grow your business and LinkedIn is definitely a great place to do that just because of the power of the network and the financial prowess of the network. There’s a large average household income and there are a lot of investors and venture capitalists on LinkedIn.

The best place to find this is just click in the People search in the top right hand corner and do “investor”. Start doing different keyword research and see how much results pop up and if it’s what you’re looking for.

You can see, there are 187,000 results right now. And you can just start going through and see how you are connected to these people and if they may make sense.

So this person is from Venture Capital, Private Equity in San Francisco and is an investor. You can see this right there. So you can see how you’re connected to this person. This is Matt. I can find references. I can do all sorts of things to see how I’m connected to this person.

I can also scroll down and see… so right here, Rich. I’ve got 29 shared connections. So I can go right here and see who I’m connected to. And this is someone who is local, who is in Columbus, Ohio. He’s a VC in Columbus, Ohio.

So I can reach out to 29 of my shared connections and probably one of them can give me an introduction. A few of these people I know would definitely give me an introduction.

So you can go through do some research, see how you’re connected to these individuals. Research a little bit about them and see if their profiles make sense to be an investor for you, or a potential investor.

You could also go to… you could just type in different words. So “VC”

you could try that. You could try “venture capital” and see what pops ups. So almost 40,000 for VC. You can see how many people you’re connected to again.
• Click on the share connection.
• Get an introduction through these common connections you have.

I could try “sponsor”. This is probably not going to be as relevant but you can get the idea. You can see the different type of keywords.
• Scroll through.
• See how many results there are.
• Click on their profile.

Again, let’s just go back to “investor” and show you another example.

The best thing that I would do is to click on Shared Connections and then:
• Figure out who you want to connect with
• Click on Get Introduced, right here
After you definitely want to:
• Research the profile
• See where they went to school
• See the projects they’ve been involved in, how they’ve advanced their career in the early years
• And use that in your language
You can just… I can click on anyone of these probably. I’ll click on Ilias, a friend of mind.
• Click on Continue
Basically what you want to do is:

Send them a reference request. You can do any of these different categories; it really doesn’t matter. New Venture is probably fine. And then have a compelling headline and just say something like “Looking for an introduction.”

You want to send your message to Rich is the person who would be the investor that I’m trying to get in touch with. And what you want to do here is add 3 points of mutual contact. So one would be, “Hey Rich,
Ilias is a friend of mine who is a person I’m getting introduced through”.

And if there are multiple points of contact, then you could say,
“Hey Rich, I’m friends with Ilias and Steve and Sharon and Sandy who are all mutual connections of ours on LinkedIn. And I’m also from Columbus, I see you’re from Columbus as well. And I noticed you liked to play sports in your profile which I’m a big sports fan. I’m looking to learn more about…”

And then at that point you just go into your spiel. Make it very brief and say,
“You know, I’d love to connect with you and learn more about where you are in your career and a little bit about what you do in your business, and share some ideas I have in my company and see what your thoughts are. I’d love to get your feedback.”

But by going with that approach it’s just simply pitching someone the idea. You’re basically making it… you’re breaking down the barriers by having 3 points of contact, so introducing them:
• Via people
• Via places
• Via things
So, people are the people you’re originally connected to.

Places would be where you’re from, places you can see they went to school, something like that.

And also things: hobbies, interests, associations, groups in their Profile.

You’re all pointing back to their Profile. By doing that you’re making it a little bit easier for them to feel welcome to connect back to you.

Then you want to just send a brief note to the person that you’re friend…
your connection, which you’re hoping to get that introduction to… send that brief note and all you have to do is send it along.

That’s how you… that’s the best way to get introduced. Make sure you do the research first on the person you’re trying to get introduced to.

But if you’re looking to make contacts and connections, then research to find where the best investors are, potential sponsors, or VCs, to help your company, or your idea… then this is the place to do it.
• Researching again up in the People search right here with the keywords.
• Then finding a mutual contact through the search rankings.
• Then reaching out this way through an introduction with 3 points of contact.
• And then going from there.

Hope you enjoyed this section. We’ll see you in the next video.

2. How To Get A Job On LinkedIn

In this section I want to talk about how to get the most out of getting a job through LinkedIn. Now I’ve talked to a lot of different employers or business owners who are constantly telling me the number one place they go to search for potential candidates is through LinkedIn. They’re constantly on LinkedIn:

• Looking for profiles
• Doing research
• Browsing the profiles of resumes they’ve received in their inbox
• And things like that
This is definitely a place… and I think the current status… 78% of high earning managers use LinkedIn as a primary tool for recruitment.

You’re definitely in the right place if you want to find a job. And this may not be for everyone, but if you’re looking for a job there are 3 main places and I’ll just briefly talk about them.

On your Home Profile scroll down here and there’s a thing that’s in Beta right now. It says Jobs You May Be Interested. These are kind of related to the keywords you have in your Profile already. They are kind of tagging that right there.

You can click on See More and you can kind of go through all the Jobs that are kind of related to what you’re talking about in your Profile. So for me:
• I talk about social media
• I talk about sports
You see there are sports and social media and things like that throughout these. They are kind of targeting you and giving you what you think you would like best. And you can do email alerts that way.

You can save your jobs and things like that.

I’ll show you the next section.

There is a way if you want to advance your Profile and take it to the next level and pay a little, then you can get more job searches. But that’s number 1 right here.

Number 2 is clicking on the Jobs section right here and finding jobs. You can just click on the Jobs tab and it’ll pop up this page right here. You can search for jobs and this is probably kind of similar to Indeed.com where you can just type in a keyword and a number of different lists will pop up. So it’s not really different.

But the thing here is… I’ll just type in “sports” and see what pops up.

You can see here which is cool and it’s different than Indeed or
Monster.com, you can see how many people can refer you these different companies. So you’ve got these different…
• Sports Marketing Manager at YouTube which would be kind of cool
• Development Associate
I’ve got these different sports… Community Marketing Manager
And you see there are 269 people in your network at the Sports
Authority, right? So you can click on here, see how many people are in your network.
• 4 people in your network
And you can start reaching out to those people to get introductions.

That’s where the power comes with LinkedIn and finding a job.
• It’s the mutual connections.

So you click on these people and see how many people you are connected to. So I’ve got one connection right there who works at the Sports Authority. I’ve got a few who are second degrees. I can reach out to them and say:

“Hey, I saw there was a job posted for Community Marketing Manager for the Sports Authority. It’s something I’m really interested in getting into. Can you make an introduction for me?

Or can you pass someone my LinkedIn Profile? Or can I give you my resume?”

It’s a lot more powerful to show people this, to go through this process, than to just send a resume out to every different job search site on the internet.

You’re going to get more opportunities this way. Guaranteed!

People are hiring through the pages they see on LinkedIn all the time.

So, this would be the second section… definitely taking that approach and you can use this Advanced Search on the side here to find and locate by zip code. So, within 50 miles, or 10 miles. And you can do different companies to find anything you want. So you can use this
Advanced Search right here if you want to search right there.

The third way would be going into the Groups and this is probably the least helpful way, but it’s also just another option. You can go through the Groups and you can click through the different Groups that you want to become a member of in your industry.

So if you’re in sports then you go click on Join all the sports related business news.

Then there’s the Jobs section at the top right here. Click here and see all the different jobs. Some of these aren’t as relevant as the other ones, so it may be just some people… but here it looks like there’s a sports sponsorship job in London. So there are some different jobs that are definitely worth taking a look at and skimming through here. But I would check the other 2 options first, seeing who they match you up with and just clicking on the Job section to see what the jobs are. Because you can go through and you can find who is in the network who is promoting those jobs.

Or you could do LinkedIn Premium which will give you more information.

But I’m not really sure if this makes a difference at the moment at least. I haven’t tested it. So you’ll have to learn more about that yourself.

But this is powerful because it’s all about who you know and showing those connections and how you’re connected to potential opportunities, to potential companies and potential jobs.

Hope you enjoyed this section. If you’re definitely looking to get a job then make sure you use LinkedIn because it’s a powerful network and I’ll see you in the next video.

3. Selling Tickets And Promoting Events

In this section we’ll be talking about selling tickets, or promoting tickets for a live or virtual event.

When you want to promote events on LinkedIn what you want to do is:
• Scroll down to the events section
• Click on See Events
And you’ll come to the Events section on LinkedIn. In my opinion
LinkedIn Events is probably the most powerful place to promote your events online. Now Facebook Events is pretty good as well, but if you want to promote your events and you have your own group then you can definitely distribute this information easily and effectively throughout your Groups.

That’s how I’ve done it over the past and I’ll just show you my events right here. It’s pretty cool what it looks like and what you can do. Here are some past events.

When I go to my information it shows you all the past events that you have. You can see here the past events that I created actually, and ones
I’ve attended, or any of those. I’ve done a bunch of these events as you can see.

Let me just show you one of these events. Click on a LinkedIn
Networking Event I ran live in Cleveland. It’s pretty cool because you can create any of the information:

• The start date
• The time
• Location
• You can put a link to where you want people to sign up.
• You can add some more information about the event

But then what’s cool is you can get all this social proof right here with all these comments of people talking about the event. That allows you to see their name. You can click on their profile and learn more about them.

Also, this gives you… once you create the event, and I’ll show you have to do that in a second… it gives you a link right here:
• You can copy and paste it
• You can send it out to your email newsletters
• You can use that on social media
• You can put it on your blogs
• You can do anything you want
But you can also see all the people who are attending, all the people who
